Who should apply to GSS?
Students whose parents desire a strong academic foundation in a faith-filled Catholic atmosphere are invited to make application for admission to Good Shepherd Catholic School. Our goal is to make a Catholic education available to families with a genuine desire to provide this to their children. We make every effort to support your family through this process. We would love to have you join us!
What is admission to GSS based on?
Students are admitted to Good Shepherd Catholic School based on the following:
- Placement Test Results
- Previous Academic Performance
- Conduct & Behavior
Completion of application and supporting documentation
What information is needed for registration to GSS?
All students new to Good Shepherd must supply us with the following information at time of registration:
- Birth Certificate
- Baptismal Certificate (if Catholic)
- Current Shot Records
- Latest Report Card for 1st – 8th grades (if applicable)
Latest Copy of Standardized Test Scores for 1st – 8th grades (if applicable)
Do I have to be Catholic to attend?
No. We welcome students of all faiths to GSS and have non-Catholic students at our school. All students participate in weekly Mass and religious classes.
What is the new student application process?
- Complete New Student registration forms found in the “Forms & Links” tab on the Admission Welcome page.
- Mail or Bring the following to the school office:
- Birth Certificate
- Baptismal Certificate (if Catholic)
- Current Shot Records
- Latest Report Card for 1st – 8th grade
- Latest Copy of Standardized Test Scores for 1st – 8th Grades
- Interview & Testing (The office will contact students to set up times)
- Prospective Student and their parents will interview with the Principal
- Testing will be arranged when the registration forms are completed (there is a $25 testing fee):
- Kindergarten – each applicant is tested individually for academic readiness
- 1st – 8th Grades – applicants are tested for academic preparedness (students transferring from another Catholic School may have testing waived based on Standardized Test Results)
- Other
- The Principal based upon parent/student interview, space limitations and the availability of an appropriate education program makes a final decision on admission and will contact the family
- After the initial registration period of each year, registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Is there an entrance test required?
Yes, an entrance test is required for Kindergarten through 8th grade. Testing may be waived if students are transferring from another Catholic School based on standardized testing. We will contact you and arrange for testing once we receive your completed registration forms.
There is a $25 testing fee.

What are the age requirements for Pre-K thru 1st grade?
Children must meet the age requirements as outlined by the Catholic Diocese of Dallas:
PREKINDERGARTEN AGE REQUIREMENTS
- A child entering prekindergarten 3 year old must be three years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year.
- A child entering prekindergarten 4 year old must be four years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year.
KINDERGARTEN & 1st GRADE AGE REQUIREMENTS
- A child entering Kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year.
A child entering 1st Grade must be six years of age on or before September 1 of the current school year or must be in 1st Grade, or completed Kindergarten in an accredited school.
